This project was built for a family who wanted to spend more time outdoors without stepping far from the comfort of their living room and kitchen. The homeowners came in with a design from another firm and a clear picture of a clean, white, high end space, and Currin reworked the plan with them to better fit how they actually live. The finished result is a full outdoor living area with a covered porch, an outdoor kitchen, two separate firepit settings, and a raised patio that opens right off the back of the house.

A covered porch sits at the center of the design, topped with a metal roof and built around a gas fireplace, ceiling heaters, and motorized screens that keep it comfortable through more of the year. Just off the porch, a full outdoor kitchen handles the cooking with a gas grill, sink, refrigerator, and storage. The patio itself was raised six feet to sit flush with the back door so the family can step straight outside, while a lowered firepit area sits closer to the lawn where the children play and a second firepit spot tucks in near the creek at the back of the property. White brick veneer, custom metal railing, and marble pavers on a permeable base carry the clean, bright look the homeowners wanted. Building all of this on a steep lot with poor soils took real engineering, and the payoff is a tightly connected outdoor space that flows from the rooms the family uses most.
